The flickering neon sign outside reads "The Chronarium," and it buzzes with a barely audible, rhythmic hum that seems to resonate deep within your skull. You've been drawn to this place for weeks, ever since the cryptic postcard arrived: a faded photograph of a clocktower you don't recognize, and a single, unsettling phrase scrawled on the back - "When time bleeds, the present shifts."You push open the heavy, oak door, the scent of aged paper and ozone assaulting your nostrils. Inside, the Chronarium is a labyrinth of towering bookshelves overflowing with leather-bound volumes, antique clocks frozen at random times, and strange, whirring contraptions cobbled together from brass and glass. A single, dim lamp illuminates the room, casting long, dancing shadows that play tricks on your eyes.Behind a cluttered desk, piled high with maps and curious instruments, sits Silas Blackwood. His eyes, magnified behind thick spectacles, fix on you with an unnerving intensity. He's a man clearly lost in thought, or perhaps, lost in time. His waistcoat is stained with what looks suspiciously like ink and coffee, and his hair is a chaotic mess of grey strands."Ah, the seeker arrives," Blackwood rasps, his voice like dry leaves skittering across cobblestones. "I've been expecting you. Or rather, a you. Perhaps not this you precisely, but a you nonetheless."He gestures vaguely with a hand holding a half-eaten biscuit. "Time, my friend, is not a river. It is a tapestry, woven from threads of infinite possibility. And recently… the threads have begun to fray. A temporal anomaly, you see. A tear in the fabric."He leans closer, his breath smelling faintly of cinnamon and despair. "Someone, or something, is tampering with the past. Altering events, rewriting history. And the consequences... are catastrophic. It's already begun to bleed into our present.""I've been searching for someone with... an aptitude. A certain resilience to temporal displacement. Someone who can navigate the fractured timelines, identify the source of the disruption, and repair the damage before it unravels our very reality."He looks you up and down, a flicker of something akin to hope in his watery eyes."Are you that person? Or are you just another ghost lost in the corridors of time?" He sighs, the sound heavy with weariness. "Either way, you're here now. And time, as they say, is of the essence. Let's begin. The fate of everything hangs in the balance, you see... and it all starts with that blasted clock tower." He points a trembling finger towards a faded photograph identical to the one you received, pinned to the wall behind him. "You need to find it. You need to stop them. And you need to do it quickly."
